Rolls That Are Tough
At Lehigh Heavy Forge, our forged steel rolls are made to withstand the most demanding mill operations.  We utilize advanced production techniques to manufacture rolls with maximum internal soundness to work in the most demanding applications.  To improve internal integrity and for cleaner steel, we use ladle refined steel that is either single or double vacuum degassed.  Our ingot specifications demand ingot teeming practices that produce rolls with excellent surface cleanliness.  Finally, we select one of a variety of heat treatment practices that best meets your specifications and mill requirements.

Our Cryogenic Deep Case Rolls
We pioneered the use of cryogenic treatments to produce metallurgic ally stable, high hardness rolls.  Now our research has combined this knowledge with our deep hardening grades and precise heat treatment practices, enabling us to produce Cryogenic Deep Case Rolls.  Our unique practices are designed to eliminate or minimize the need for rehardening.

10,000 Tons of Forging Force
The workhorse of Lehigh Heavy Forge is our world class, open-die press.  No other forger in North America has one as large or powerful.
A massive 10,000 tons of strength is directed to the critical centers of large diameter, heavy-duty rolls.  This incredible forge force produces a virtually unbreakable core which greatly increases the in-service life of our rolls.  We can forge ingots as large as 130 inches in diameter and weighing up to 600,000 pounds.  Even on 80 inch diameter rolls, we can achieve significant forge work on the roll body and not just the journal ends.

Customized Heat Treatment
After reviewing your specifications and mill requirements, we select the best heat treatment for your rolls.  Lehigh Heavy Forge can meet your journal hardness in various ways, including flame hardening and quenching and tempering.  We can use progressive induction hardening, one of several conventional hardening methods, even roller spray quenching.

Our Unique Finishing Touches
Our atmospherically controlled grinding facility is unique to the industry.  We grind your work rolls so precisely that roundness and runout of less than one-quarter of a thousandth of an inch can be achieved.  Our wide range of numerically controlled machine tools is unsurpassed and allows us to precisely meet your most exacting dimensional requirements.

Technical Support, Both Before and After the Sale
Our Technical Support Group is unsurpassed in providing expert technical assistance whenever required.  First they make sure that we understand your technical needs and expectations.  Then they will work with you to monitor the productivity of the rolls in your operation to continuously seek improvements.  They are also fully qualified to provide on site nondestructive evaluations, including ultrasonic inspections, metallurgical evaluations, etc.  You can rely on Lehigh Heavy Forge to supply the technical support necessary to maximize the value of your rolls.
