- Where Unique Components Take Shape
Lehigh Heavy Forge is the only super heavy forge facility in North America. A
long and illustrious history of over 110 years includes many firsts for the
industry. The first unique custom forging was the 56 ton axle of the Ferris Wheel
for the 1892-1893 Chicago World's Fair. At that time, the axle was the largest forging ever
produced. In the 1950's we were a leader in the use of vacuum degassed steel for
sounder, cleaner forgings.
Since the first forgings were produced in 1887, we have provided a
wide variety of critical ferrous and non-ferrous forged components. Customers in the
Capital Goods, Industrial Equipment, Marine Equipment and Power Transmission Industries
have come to depend on us for custom forged components - ship shafting, hydraulic
cylinders, pressure vessels power generation components, cams, etc.
With our forging experience, we also convert customer's high
strength and non-ferrous materials into useful shapes on the 10,000 ton press.
Components can be heat treated in certified furnaces and precisely machined in a variety
of NC and CNC machine tools.
Our experienced technical staff seeks innovative solutions to your
unique forging needs. With world class manufacturing facilities and sophisticated
engineering techniques, our goal is solutions that save our customers time and
money.
Special Orders are Routine
Special order requirements are met using state of the industry manufacturing facilities
and production methods. Advanced computer modeling allows our engineers to
accurately form complex shapes. With their skills and our facilities, a full range
of custom open die products can be produced to your requirements - from simple shafts to
complex large diameter cylinders.
Lehigh Heavy Forge can produce cylinders up to 75 in. OD x 46
in. I D x 206 in.;
trepan bore shafts up to 30 in. diameter and 80 ft. long from one end, upset forge large
ingots and apply double vacuum degassed steel.
Taking advantage of our unique facilities, our technical staff may
suggest alternative designs and/or chemical analyses to save you time and money. For
example, costly welds and inspections may be eliminated with one piece, closed end
cylinder designs. From the receipt of an inquiry to after shipment, our experienced
engineers are involved, answering your questions and understanding your needs and
expectations.
A Forge Press that Leaves an Impression
It's the largest open die press in North America. Harnessing 10,000 tons of
pressing power, it can handle ingots up to 130" diameter and 600,000 pounds.
The power permits the use of wider dies for superior internal quality and strength.
High strength and non-ferrous materials can also be shaped under the press. But the
press isn't just all muscle. Elaborate computer controls and experienced forgers
allows us to perform intricate forming operations.
Certifiable Heat Treatment
Our heat treatment facilities have been upgraded to permit the use of the best heat treatment practice
to meet your specified properties. Your components can be heat treated in certified
furnaces, a unique capability. We can use a variety of quench media from air to full
water immersion of the largest components.
Finishing Touches
To meet your most demanding dimensional requirements, millions of dollars have been
invested recently in NC and CNC machine tools - lathes, milling machines (horizontal and
vertical) and grinders. Our wide range of such equipment is unsurpassed. This
equipment also has improved productivity which means shorter, consistent on time
deliveries.
Conversion Work
Lehigh Heavy Forge can convert your high strength and non-ferrous material into useful
shapes. The 10,000 ton press is ideally suited for this service. Our heat
treatment facilities, including certified furnaces and extensive machining capabilities
are used to process a variety of components.
Technical Support
Our experienced
technical support team will supply expert advice from inquiry to delivery and
beyond. Extensive information on material properties, forging techniques, heat
treatment capability, machining methods and state of the industry inspection methods is
available. Whenever you have a question, our engineers will supply the answer.
A Commitment to Quality
At Lehigh Heavy Forge, we make the finest custom components because we build quality
into every step. Using stringent Statistical Process Control methods, we monitor our
process parameters to ensure that your exact specifications are being met. Our
Quality Assurance system complies with military standards and is consistent with the most
stringent commercial standards including ISO 9002. Having our own Metrology
Laboratory is a very unique asset. All measuring devices used to certify final
product are certified with standards on a regular schedule in compliance with ISO
10012. All of these efforts are designed to be certain that you receive products to
the specifications that you require.
Investing in the Future
To remain a world leader in high quality Custom Open Die Forgings, Lehigh Heavy Forge
continuously invests in equipment, research, process improvements and training. Our
faculties boast many recent multi-million dollar capital improvements - new machine tools, upgraded forge and heat
treatment furnaces, information systems and much more.
Our skilled engineers, who are contributing members of technical
societies, work to improve our processes and increase the value of our products to
you. Innovative technical expertise and world class forging facilities make Lehigh
Heavy Forge the best source for your Custom Open Die Forgings.
